In April, with the launch of OneAdvanced, we began a new chapter of our journey. We partnered with Tech West Mids (TechWM), the voice of the UK’s promising tech ecosystem.
Today, we are proud to be a patron of Birmingham Tech Week – the largest tech festival and conference in the UK, with an impressive crowd of over 7,500 attendees – and embracing numerous opportunities that accompany this prestigious position.
So, what’s happening during this entire week?
A week of innovation and collaboration
Birmingham Tech Week, scheduled for 21-25 October, will transform the entire West Midlands into a buzzing hub of technology and innovation. True to our commitment, OneAdvanced will be at the forefront, engaging in various headline events and discussions. We will have the privilege of being part of the following key events:
- Leadership Breakfast: An intimate gathering that connects industry leaders to discuss the future of technology and leadership. Anwen Robinson, SVP of Accelerator, will join the panel of leaders to share her insights.
- Digital Skills Symposium: Focusing on the ever-evolving landscape of digital skills necessary for future tech workforce readiness. Astrid Bowser, Senior Product Manager - Data/AI and Evgeniya Fedoseeva, Director of Knowledge Management will share her insights into how AI is changing the way we design and implement modern software solutions.
- Women in Tech Day: Celebrating and empowering women, emphasising diversity and inclusion in the technology sector.
- Global Growth Congress: Addressing globalisation and opportunities for tech companies to expand and thrive on a worldwide scale.
These events are more than just gatherings; they are platforms where ideas are exchanged, partnerships are forged, and the future of technology is shaped. OneAdvanced is excited to share insights, foster collaboration, and champion innovation during these sessions.
The student hackathon: Empowering future tech leaders
Adding to the excitement, OneAdvanced will proudly host our very own fringe event – Student Hackathon. Scheduled for Wednesday, 23 October, at our Mailbox Office, this event, under the expert guidance of Ann Ramsey, our VP of Education, promises to be transformative. The theme, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), invites students from across the West Midlands to engage in friendly competition.
This experience not only inspires innovation in addressing pressing global challenges but also empowers students to hone essential teamwork and problem-solving skills. By harnessing the minds of tomorrow, we aim to equip them with the tools and knowledge to tackle the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) challenges they will face. Through these initiatives, we hope to cultivate the next generation of tech pioneers who are not only innovative but also deeply mindful of their social and environmental impact.
Celebrating excellence: Birmingham Tech Awards
As the week draws to a close, the Birmingham Tech Awards will take centre stage, celebrating the finest achievements in the technology sector. We are immensely proud that Katie Obi, our Chief People Officer, will be a pivotal judge in the Young Tech Person of the Year category. Her role underscores our commitment to nurturing young talent and acknowledging outstanding contributions to the tech community.
Looking ahead
Birmingham Tech Week 2024 promises to be a landmark event for the entire tech community in the West Midlands and beyond. By being a patron, we look forward to connecting with visionaries, showcasing our innovations, and contributing to the region's dynamic tech landscape.
