OneAdvanced’s ESG Student Hackathon

24/10/2024 minute read OneAdvanced PR

This Wednesday, we opened our doors for an annual event with young people from our local community at our office in the Mailbox. As part of Birmingham Tech Week, we invited a group of students from local colleges to take part in a hackathon focusing on environmental, social and governance issues. This was an opportunity for young innovators to help solve the ESG problems our society is facing right now.

The core focus of the day was developing innovative solutions that address key ESG challenges, fostering a sustainable and equitable future. Working to a brief designed by our internal learning team, the students created pitches for new technology-focused solutions, which were then be assessed by a panel of experts. Innovation was key to this challenge, finding new ideas that can make a real difference.

By working with local education providers in the community, we were able to create a hands-on learning experience. Environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues are becoming more important in the world of work, and the innovators of the future need to be armed with the skills and knowledge to face these challenges. More than that, the session focused on how technology can be leveraged to solve ESG challenges, learning how new innovations can play an important part.

With a team of skilled experts in the technology field leading the process, the students involved had a chance to learn more about how they design innovative solutions every day. They shared their insights into the important topics of innovation, software development and design, and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence. This was designed to be a varied and practical learning experience which provided the opportunity to gain valuable experience.

While the event has been organised by our Vice President of Education, Ann Ramsey, an expert in software for the Education Sector, she was joined by a group of experts in a range of fields. Our Director of User Experience and Design, Christian Baverstock, sharing his knowledge of designing modern user-focused applications; our Chief Marketing and ESG Officer, Sally Scott, providing key insights into how we at OneAdvanced are facing ESG challenges, as well as how a great idea can go from concept to customer satisfaction; and our Director of Knowledge Management, Evgeniya Fedoseeva, providing insights in to how AI is changing the way we design and implement modern software solutions.
